Making ideas move in manufacturing: Business Storytelling Workshop at TVS Mobility

The Challenge: When manufacturing teams struggle to communicate across functions
At TVS Mobility's Madurai facility, professionals from R&D, sales, HR, finance, planning, IT and supply chain work across functions, each with its own priorities, terminology and challenges.
An R&D professional may need to explain a technical recommendation to Finance. A Sales Manager may need Planning to accommodate an urgent customer requirement. An HR Manager may need Production to release employees for training.
In each situation, the challenge goes beyond sharing information. The speaker must help the listener understand why it matters.
TVS Mobility partnered with Tellable to conduct a full-day business storytelling workshop focused on making everyday workplace communication clearer and more effective.
Approach: Making business storytelling relevant to manufacturing professionals through an interactive workshop
We approached the workshop with one central question:
How can you make people outside your function understand, care and act?
Rather than treating storytelling as a presentation skill, we positioned it as a practical tool for everyday business conversations.
The workshop combined storytelling principles with examples and exercises drawn from situations familiar to the participants.
Our approach focused on three areas:
Understanding the audience: Recognising what matters to the listener, including their priorities and constraints.
Simplifying complexity: Turning technical information, data and business problems into clear, relatable messages.
Influencing action: Structuring conversations around a problem, its consequences and a practical way forward.
Solution: Turning everyday manufacturing challenges into stories
The full-day workshop moved from learning storytelling principles to applying them.
Participants explored how stories work, why details matter, and how to make business communication more concrete and memorable.
Interactive games, quizzes and demonstrations helped introduce the concepts. The second half focused on practical application through role plays and cross-functional scenarios.
Participants worked with situations such as Sales negotiating delivery priorities with Planning, HR coordinating training schedules with Production, and Operations presenting maintenance requirements to Finance.
Each exercise encouraged participants to consider not just what they wanted to communicate, but what their audience needed to hear.
Outcomes: Clearer communication across business functions
The workshop introduced participants to practical storytelling techniques they could apply beyond formal presentations.
Through discussions and exercises, participants explored how to:
Explain complex ideas more simply.
Connect information and data to business consequences.
Recognise competing priorities in cross-functional conversations.
Structure messages around clear requests and actions.
The engagement demonstrated how storytelling principles can be adapted to the everyday communication needs of professionals across different business functions.
Because a good business story doesn't merely convey information. It helps people understand what matters and what needs to happen next.
